I consider RETAIL as my secondary career. It has been a great part-time source of stability and joy in my life.
In high school, I did some temporary work in the Granite Run Mall (Media, PA) and later Tri-State Mall (Claymont, DE). I also did some work for Tigue's Pharmacy (Wilmington, DE).
Still in high school, I began part-time work with Super*Fresh Food Markets (Wilmington, DE). I really enjoyed that job and being around people. It was perhaps that experience that led me to a pathway in customer service and hospitality.
Walt Disney World recruiters visit various college campuses throughout the United States. It was one of my greatest joys to be accepted to the Walt Disney World College Program for the fall '90 semester. Perhaps it was my passion for guest service that won my spot on the program. My work assignment for the semester was merchandise host in EPCOT Center.
After the program, I continued to work seasonally through 1996.
I took a job at Circuit City in Delaware for a few months in 1995 to keep up with technology and sharpen my people skills. Of course, I was working full-time as the general manager of WMPH 91.7 FM.
Transitioning from Dance Radio Network LLC, I took a part-time sales associate job at the Sears Concord Mall home electronics department in May 2012 while still maintaining Colonel C Disc Jockey and Photo Booth.
"Sears was just what I needed for a change of pace. Being a loyal Sears shopper, I love technology and enjoy being around people."
Clint Dantinne
Keeping relevant with televisions and consumer electronics, I attended the Content & Communications Conference in New York (November 2012 & November 2013), Government Video Expo in Washington DC (November 2012), and National Association of Broadcasters Show in Las Vegas (April 2013). He also attended CE Week and the Ultra HD Conference at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York (June 2013).
At Sears store #1853, I helped with two major department overnight refurbishing team projects by installing many new display televisions and sound systems. When the Sencore HDTV 996A VSB player (video distribution system) carrying the store promotional announcements crashed in September 2012, I was able to quickly remedy the crisis for store management by utilizing his prior engineering skills. I also helped with department pricing, inventory, and telephone support. As a sales professional, I tracked my sales metrics carefully. For my sales contributions, I received the prestigious Best of Blue honor.
Perhaps one of my most favorite jobs ever... Best Buy. I worked part-time at a Best Buy in Delaware before moving to Florida. I worked at two stores in the central Florida area.
Fun Fact: Best Buy #1184 Davenport within Posner Park was once home to two amusement parks. This property had previously been a theme park... Circus World (1974-1986) then Boardwalk and Baseball (1987-1990).
Hospitality
Theme Parks: Although not retail, I took a part-time hospitality job at SeaWorld when I first moved to Florida in 2015. In 2018, I took a seasonal job at Universal Orlando Resort. In 2021, I returned part-time at Walt Disney World for their 50th World's Most Magical Celebration.
